Asset Setup: Currencies, Stocks & Crypto
Set up currency holdings, stocks, crypto, and other assets, then check their value and forecast assumptions.
Add an asset
- Use the +/- button to add an Asset plan.
- Choose or create the account where you want to track it, then give the asset a clear title.
- Choose Asset Type, then enter the amount and check Current Rate using the guidance below.
- Set the start date, appreciation or yield, and compound frequency. Tap the checkmark to save.
Use separate accounts for things you want to track separately, such as a home, car, investment portfolio, or crypto wallet. See Add Another Account.
Choose the asset type
The Asset Type selector has three groups: Fiat for currencies, Crypto for coins, and Security for stocks and other securities.
Currencies
- Open Asset Type, choose Fiat, then select the currency you hold, such as EUR or GBP.
- In Value/Amount, enter the amount in that currency, not its converted value.
- Check Current Rate: the value of one unit in your base currency.
For example, if you hold 100 units and use a rate of 1.10, the starting value is 110 in your base currency. This is an example, not a current exchange rate.
Stocks
- Open Asset Type, choose Security, then Stock.
- Enter the ticker in Symbol, such as AAPL. This field replaces the optional Subtitle when Stock is selected.
- In Amount, enter the number of shares, not the total portfolio value.
- Check Current Rate, the price per share in your base currency used to value the holding.
For an investment portfolio you only want to track as one total, use its total value with your base currency instead of entering it as a number of shares.
Crypto
- Open Asset Type, choose Crypto, then select the coin, such as Bitcoin or a supported stablecoin.
- In Amount, enter how much of the coin you hold, including fractions.
- Check Current Rate, the value of one coin in your base currency.
Check the rate and base currency
Amount × Current Rate gives the holding's starting value in your base currency. When the asset is already valued in your base currency, use a rate of 1.
Use the refresh control beside Current Rate to request an available rate, or enter the rate manually. For stocks, follow the currency caution above; a refreshed stock quote is the previous closing price, not a live trading price.
Choosing a currency or coin for an asset does not change the app's Base Currency. See Base Currency settings before changing the app-wide setting; existing plans are not automatically converted.
Set the forecast assumptions
- Appr'n/APY: Set the appreciation or annual yield for the asset. Use a negative rate for depreciation.
- Start date: Choose when the asset forecast begins.
- Compound Frequency: Choose how often the forecast applies the appreciation or yield.
- Adjust: When shown beside the volatility and growth values, tap it to review those price-forecast assumptions. These are separate from Appr'n/APY.
Changes saved through Adjust are shared by plans using the same Asset Type selection, not just the plan you opened. For example, changing the settings for Stock can affect other Stock plans, even when their symbols differ.
Include debt and net worth
If an asset has a loan against it, use Lien at to link the lender account that holds the debt. For example, link a property's asset plan to its mortgage lender account.
To see assets and debts together, select All Accounts and enable Net Worth under Range. See Net Worth, Assets, Loans & Appreciation.
