Change or rename a category or account
Choose whether the change should apply everywhere or only from a future date.
Fast answer
If you are cleaning up a name, rename the category or account in Settings. That updates the name wherever it is used.
If you want a plan to use a different category only from a certain date forward, edit the plan, choose the new category, set the new start or next date, and save. Earlier forecast entries and processed history stay tied to the category that existed before that date.
Pick the right kind of change
Rename a category or account everywhere
Use this when the meaning is the same and only the name needs cleanup, such as renaming Salary to Paycheck.
- Open Settings ⚙️.
- Open the account or category list you want to edit.
- Rename the account or category name.
- Save the change.
Deleting a category is safest only when it is unused. If the app shows usage for that category, rename it or move future plans instead.
Change a plan category from a future date
Use this when the old category was correct before, but the plan should use a different category going forward.
- Open the plan.
- Choose the new title/category.
- Set the new start or next date to the first date the new category should apply.
- Review the amount, account, transfer, schedule, and auto-clear settings.
- Save the plan.
Old category names can still appear in filters or history because earlier entries are still tied to the category that was used at the time.
Keep the old plan visible for later reference
If you want the original plan setup to remain easy to look up, set an end date on the current plan before the change begins, then create a new plan with the new category from the next start date.
Since version 1.17.0, you can copy the existing plan instead, then adjust its category, schedule, and start date to make this faster.
Tip for subtitles
Use a category for the main purpose of the plan, such as Rent, Mortgage, Groceries, or Salary. Use the optional subtitle when you only need extra context, such as a person, lender, store, or note.
